Otter Families,
This newsletter brings a few staffing updates. We are welcoming two members to the Oxford team! The first is Coach Mike. After subbing at Oxford all last year, Mike fell in love with our community and wanted to come back! We found the perfect spot for him as our Vision Scholar Coordinator. In this role he will provide critical services to support our mission of transforming the conditions in BUSD that have led to the significant disproportionality in the representation of Black/African American students in Special Education. As a part of his role, he will be playing math games with all after school students in grades K - 3. This fun addition to the after school program is designed to allow our students to build math fluency skills while having fun!
Additionally we are welcoming Nicole Mitchell to the team. Nicole is coming to us from Piedmont and will be our literacy coach. This position was formerly held by Amy Fry. Kyla Portugal has been subbing in this role while Nicole finished her contract at Piedmont. We are lucky to have Nicole and excited to have her help guide our literacy work!
Our next e-newsletter will be on December 5th. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and am so grateful for your partnership! You are an integral part of the Oxford community, and we cherish your support! Enjoy the week and may it be a warm start to a joyful holiday season.
-Beth
Did you know that we have a partnership with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra? They come to our school to play for our students each fall and with our students in the spring! During the performance, 1st grader Natalie S. was invited to conduct! Additionally, you can go on their website and order FREE tickets for students! The adults accompanying the students can attend for just $15. Check it out!
