Happy Halloween! Before we say goodbye to October, I need to pause for a moment and recognize the extraordinary efforts that our community has put forth in service of our kids. First of all, a huge thank you to our teachers and staff for all of the love, dedication and outstanding teaching that they have provided. A shout out to our after school staff who stepped up without hesitation and provided extra hours during conferences so that parents would have full coverage. And finally, a heartfelt thank you to our families and all of the support that they have given in volunteer hours, donations and advocacy for all students. A special recognition to the PTA executive team for coordinating the Harvest Fair! It was a huge success!
During the month of November, Oxford will be continuing our 30 Days of Kindness Challenge. It will culminate with a Kindness Spirit Week that includes lunchtime activities and theme days for dressing up. At home, you can continue the conversation about kindness by focusing on the power of words. We are teaching students that words have power. Teasing, “roasting” or saying negative things about someone else’s identity is never welcome. For grades 3-5, this lesson is extended into online platforms as well. If you would like to follow up on this conversation at home, here is a guide from Common Sense Media that provides tips on supporting your child with cyberbullying and mean online behavior.
