Can you believe that we are in September already?
As you heard at Back to School Night, our students are working hard on literacy, numeracy, science and social studies. But we are also working on our school-wide expectations!
This month, the focus is on “Be Safe”. This involves respecting the personal space of others, being where we are supposed to be, and using our listening tool to hear directions.
During the September 23rd Community Meeting, we will go over the various safety drills that happen at school and explain how and why they are conducted.
You can support our Be Safe theme by using safe driving habits at drop off and pick up.
At both drop off and pick up, we encourage families to travel around the school in a clockwise direction. This allows for the passenger door to open onto the sidewalk, avoiding unsafe darting across the street.
If you are dropping off at the Curtis Gate, consider turning a block earlier from University and coming down Curtis toward University.
Additionally, if you plan to get out of the car and chat, please consider using the parking lot off of Addison. The lot is accessible to both gates and allows for parents to connect (we love that!) without blocking traffic.
Our safety team is also exploring the possibility of a rolling pick up to help traffic move along.

¿Pueden creer que ya estamos en septiembre?
Como escucharon en la Noche de regreso a la escuela, nuestros estudiantes están trabajando duro en alfabetización, aritmética, ciencias y estudios sociales. ¡Pero también estamos trabajando en nuestras expectativas para toda la escuela!
Este mes, el enfoque está en "Sea seguro". Esto implica respetar el espacio personal de los demás, estar donde se supone que debemos estar y usar nuestra herramienta de escucha para escuchar instrucciones.
Durante la Reunión Comunitaria del 23 de septiembre, repasaremos los diversos simulacros de seguridad que se realizan en la escuela y explicaremos cómo y por qué se llevan a cabo.
Puede apoyar nuestro tema Sea seguro al usar hábitos de conducción seguros al dejar y recoger a los niños.
Tanto al dejar como al recoger a los niños, alentamos a las familias a que viajen por la escuela en el sentido de las agujas del reloj. Esto permite que la puerta del pasajero se abra hacia la acera, evitando correr de manera insegura por la calle.
Si deja a sus hijos en Curtis Gate, considere girar una cuadra antes desde University y bajar por Curtis hacia University.
Además, si planeas salir del auto y conversar, considera usar el estacionamiento que se encuentra al lado de Addison. El estacionamiento es accesible desde ambas puertas y permite que los padres se conecten (¡nos encanta eso!) sin bloquear el tráfico.
Nuestro equipo de seguridad también está explorando la posibilidad de una recogida rodante para ayudar a que el tráfico avance.
