Oxford Elementary School
Go Otters!
Thank you for a wonderful first week! It was so fun to see childrens’ smiles and the joy of reconnection. It was especially uplifting to see our Kindergarteners begin their educational
journey! After a busy week of visiting all of the classes, playing with students at recess and meeting with families, I have already built a large number of wonderful Oxford experiences. I hope that your student’s start was equally as fulfilling.
Thank you for all of your support!
Beth

Important Upcoming Dates / Events
August 25th - Oxford Spirit day! Wear either an Oxford shirt OR an otter shirt OR rainbow colors. We will have a community meeting at 8:15 for students to meet the whole school staff.
August 26th - 11 - 2 Community Welcome Picnic - More info below
August 31st - Back to School Night. More Info coming soon!
Home / School Connection: Please discuss with your students!
Students will receive these reminders next week in class, but please reinforce the messages at home as well.
Lunch / Snacks
Sharing food is not allowed at school! Let’s keep everyone safe and be mindful of allergies.
Toys
Please keep those at home. They can be a distraction and if they are lost or disappear, it can ruin someone’s day.
Label, Label, Label
Please label your child’s clothing, water bottle and anything else. The Lost & Found has already begun and if there’s a name on the item, it might be returned to your child! Love those sharpies!
Pick Up and Drop Off News
If your student is in 4th or 5th grade and walks home, please fill out this form. You may email it back to the front office or send it back physically in the student’s Thursday folder.
At pick up and drop off, please say your hellos and goodbyes outside of the black fence. This helps allow the students to move quickly into school and makes the social emotional transition easier for the kids.
From the PTA:
Community Welcome Picnic: Saturday, August 26 11-2
Oxford's PTA is pleased to invite our entire community to our annual Community Welcome Picnic! Join us at the school for some food and social time.
PTA is providing pizza, popcorn, and drinks for all, and we want you to bring a potluck item! Please include a card or Post-It with your family's name and any ingredients that may trigger an allergy. PTA will also provide plates, napkins, and utensils.
Interested in volunteering?
We are fortunate to have such a caring community and parents are welcome to volunteer in the classrooms or at lunch. If you are interested in helping over the lunch hour (11:10 - 12:30), please let Beth Cornwell know! Students could always use an extra hand opening milks, peeling oranges or playing a game out on the yard! If you are interested in volunteering with classrooms, please communicate with your child’s teacher.
Interested in volunteering with the PTA? E-mail PTA@oxfordelementary.org or fill out our PTA membership form here https://forms.gle/nNwU3oJLmsjEenbv8. We are especially looking for Classroom Coordinators and volunteers to help bring back Oxford’s beloved tradition - Harvest Fair. Also look at the Calendar at a Glance attached to the Newsletter email.
Attendance & Absences
Remember to report your student’s absence to oxfordattendance@berkeley.net. Kaitlin created this very informative form FAQ for to help navigate this process.
Visiting the School
If you need to visit the school, or have set up a time to help in a classroom, all visitors must stop by the office to sign in and to get a visitor sticker. Please do not go directly to the classroom. If you need to drop something off for your child, the easiest way to do that is to stop by 1222 University Ave and we can buzz you in. We keep the gates locked during the day and we want to try to keep the school secure.
Be a Good Neighbor
Please help us to be good neighbors around school.
Don’t block driveways.
Drive slowly around the school. A clockwise direction is best.
Please don’t park in the bus zone - ever. It makes it unsafe for our kids getting on and off the buses.
Don’t honk at other cars.
Walk bikes on the sidewalk so pedestrians don’t get hit.
Line up for pick up at Curtis ankd Addison. It makes things much easier and safer for the staff facilitating the process.
Don’t have kids run across the street at drop-off or pick-up.
Please no u-turns in the drop-off and pick-up zones.
Thank you for helping to keep the neighborhood safe and peaceful.
