5th grader takes top prize at Oxford Oratorical Fest

Maya Goldberg, a fifth-grade student at Oxford, claimed first place at the Oratorical Fest and with it the honor of representing our school in a districtwide competition.
Goldberg recited an original poem, "Beautiful Oh Beautiful," republished at the end of this post with permission from Goldberg and their family.
Oratorical Fest at the Berkeley Unified School District began in 2018 as part of Black History Month. The annual event encourages students to perform published or original speeches, skits, spoken word, and poetry related to a designated theme. This year's theme is called "A Reclamation Narrative: The Cultural Revolution of the Harlem Renaissance."
To see finalists from Berkeley's elementary schools, middle schools, and high school, come to the Oxford theater for a 5:30 p.m. performance on Wed., March 26. Doors open at 5. Jazz Monique Hudson, an artist, speaker, and educator from the East Bay, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event.
Congratulations go to all participants in this year's Oxford Oratorical Fest. Second place went to Layla Nazar and Kira Ellingson; 3rd place went to Amayah James-Rodriguez and Amiyah Stewart; and Honorable Mention went to Ariella Davis and Jamar Jones.
Beautiful Oh Beautiful

Harlem is a beautiful place where laughter, happiness, and nature grows.
Where people came out with voices and talents that spread around the world.
Don’t think that era is over, ‘cause it has just begun.
When you make someone smile, don’t think that they are just doing that to make you feel good.
Think of it as something to grow on and cherish with others.
A beautiful girl, beautiful boy, beautiful kid. Anything that starts with beautiful is you, anything that is beautiful is you.
Beautiful oh beautiful, shine bright like others who miraculously changed the world and the world to come.
Un estudiante de quinto grado se lleva el primer premio en el Festival de Oratoria de Oxford
Maya Goldberg, estudiante de quinto grado en Oxford, obtuvo el primer lugar en el Festival de Oratoria y, con ello, el honor de representar a nuestra escuela en una competencia distrital.
Goldberg recitó un poema original, "Beautiful Oh Beautiful", republicado al final de esta publicación con su autorización y la de su familia.
El Festival de Oratoria del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Berkeley comenzó en 2018 como parte del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana. طالب الصف الخامس يحصل على الجائزة الكبرى في مهرجان أكسفورد الخطابي
حصلت مايا غولدبرغ، طالبة الصف الخامس في جامعة أكسفورد، على المركز الأول في مهرجان الخطابة، ونالت بفضله شرف تمثيل مدرستنا في مسابقة على مستوى المنطقة.
ألقت غولدبرغ قصيدة أصلية بعنوان "جميل يا جميل"، أُعيد نشرها في نهاية هذا المنشور بإذن من غولدبرغ وعائلتها.
انطلق مهرجان الخطابة في منطقة بيركلي الموحدة للمدارس عام ٢٠١٨ كجزء من شهر التاريخ الأسود. يشجع هذا الحدث السنوي الطلاب على إلقاء خطابات منشورة أو أصلية، ومشاهد تمثيلية، وكلمات منطوقة، وأشعار تتعلق بموضوع محدد. يُطلق على موضوع هذا العام اسم "سردية استصلاح: الثورة الثقافية لنهضة هارلم".
لمشاهدة المتأهلين للنهائيات من مدارس بيركلي الابتدائية والمتوسطة والثانوية، تفضلوا بزيارة مسرح أكسفورد لحضور عرض مسرحي الساعة ٥:٣٠ مساءً. عرض يوم الأربعاء 26 مارس. تفتح الأبواب الساعة 5. جاز مونيك هدسون، فنانة ومتحدثة ومعلمة من إيست باي، ستكون عريف الحفل لهذا الحدث.

هارلم مكان جميل حيث ينمو الضحك والسعادة والطبيعة.
حيث خرج الناس بأصوات ومواهب انتشرت في جميع أنحاء العالم.
لا تعتقد أن هذا العصر قد انتهى، لأنه قد بدأ للتو.
