Picture Day, Digital Citizens & Movie Night!

Posted on Updated on

flowers muralWe are now sending out the school newsletters every other week. Our hope is to save paper and not have information repeated too often. If there is timely information during the off-week, I will send out a message via the Oxford email list and/or do a robo-call. School events are also listed on the Oxford Facebook page and the school website, Be sure to check out the website, it’s really amazing. Hillary Brooks, an Oxford parent, has been doing an outstanding job putting up-to-date information and links to different resources on the school website.

Speaking of communication, if you need to talk to your child’s teacher, please send them an email, a note, or leave a message in the office. Sometimes you can catch the teacher on the playground after school. The conversations on the playground or in the hallways before school keep students from entering the classrooms in a timely fashion. We want to support everyone getting started learning as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

There is no school on Monday, October 10th for students. The staff will be participating in district-wide professional development and we will not be at school. Be sure to mark your calendar so no one shows up at school that day!

Help sell Chinook Books in Sept & Oct

Posted on

Chinook BookThank you to all the people who brought baked goods and fruit to this morning’s Back-to-School Coffee. Remember that there’ll be another Coffee tomorrow morning, same place, same time. And whilst we’re at it, we’d like to ask you for your help selling Chinook Books to our community. What is the Chinook Book? It’s a book of coupons from local stores. (You may have seen it at your local supermarket.)

Every year, Oxford partners with the Chinook Book company to raise money for our school. The Chinook Book, together with the app, costs $20, half of which goes to Oxford. The coupons in this year’s book and app expire on September 30, 2017—so you’ve got a whole year to make the most of a wide range of excellent discounts.

In a nutshell, we’ve got the books and the app. Now we need you. Can you help us sell them at school?

This is a short-term volunteer opportunity. We’ve got 8 weeks to sell as many chinook books and apps as possible. Help us start now and we can add to our fundraising goal. You could start tomorrow or Thursday morning at the Back-to-School Coffee. Or you choose the times.

Contact us at if you’re interested (or meet us at Thursday’s Back-to-School Coffee).

Thank you,
Betsy Maisel & Aïda Garcia Pons
(2015-17 PTA co-presidents)

3.6.2014 Oxford News

From the Principal:

At last week’s Community Meeting, the upcoming School Raffle and Spring Dance were announced to the students and families in attendance. The Dance is on Friday, March 21st. Hope to see you all there. And please sell those tickets! There are a lot of great prizes available.

Another upcoming event is the first School Auction (off-site and adults only) on Friday, April 18th. We want everyone to know they are wanted and welcome to attend. Berkeley schools pull students from all over the city, which helps to create a unique and rich community. I am hoping our Auction will also represent our diverse school community. Please consider talking to a parent in your child’s classroom and encouraging him/her to attend the auction. Sometimes that personal invitation helps people to feel welcome.
