SBA State Testing, Grades 3-5

Posted on Updated on

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium logoSBA is the Smarter Balance Assessment. This is the new state testing program that begins this year—well, the field test is this year. All 3rd through 5th grade students will be testing but it’s a “test of the test.” The purpose of the SBA this year is to evaluate the testing software, ensure the quality of test questions, establish scoring and reporting levels, and familiarize participants with online testing and correlation to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This dress rehearsal also gives us an opportunity to figure out schedules, computer needs, and any other issues that may arise. We will not get the results of the tests. Oxford students will take the test on April 7, 8, 9, and 14, right after spring break. Continue reading “SBA State Testing, Grades 3-5” »

“Grandma’s Hands” on Th & Fri—no Community Meeting this week

Posted on Updated on

You are warmly invited to attend the original production of “Grandma’s Hands: College Bound” performed by all the 5th graders at Oxford. The play will be performed on Thursday, March 13th and Friday, March 14th promptly at 9 am.

We will not be having Community Meeting on Friday, 3/14, due to the play and the preparations needed.

In this 9th rendition, Grandma’s great granddaughter, Nia, learns a very important lesson in life, that “there is no progress without struggle,” through the voices of important leaders who fought for equal rights throughout history, from African civilization to the present time. Come explore the Civil Rights Movement and so much more, expressed through dance, poetry, instrumental music, monologues and song.

Thank you!
